Ding Dong The Scene is Dead

I started tackling the book covers again. I abandoned work on them first for NaNoWriMo. Then as I got deep into the edits. Browsing images had become a time sink and way to put off revision.

National Novel Editing Month (NaNoEdMo) and Camp NaNoWriMo are fast approaching, March and April respectively. The tentative plans are to work on Book 2 during NaNoEdMo and Book 3 during Camp NaNo. But as they say, “The best laid plans of mice and men…”

Book 1 – Justicar Jhee and the Cursed Abbey

Great Gravy Granddaddy! I managed to get past the fancy feast! Well at least for this round of edits. I’ll have to take another pass on details and dialogue later. Too much placeholder text still and a batch of characters need proper names. But the three scenes better match what the story became. For now, I got everyone in place and the order of events in a more coherent state. I filed off some more serial numbers from the more derivative aspects too. Now to tackle another megascene supercut.

Book 2 – Justicar Jhee and the Gray Galleon

To avoid bloat in Book 1, I punted more ideas until later. Also, as the characters change there, it’s bleeding into how they interact here and in Book 3. In a good way this time. I see the way some scenes went down in the first draft in a new light.

Location. Location. Location. I have a better idea of how I can make the “galleon” setting all the things I want and need it to be. I have more world building and background detail to work with so more open questions can be closed.

Book 3 – “The Missing MacGuffin”

I’m getting some characterization bleed over from Book 1. Similar to Book 2, some scenes will change in subtle ways once I start the revision. Since this book was better planned out than the others, I’m not rethinking huge chunks of story like I did with the other two. Although, I may need another subplot or to expand the existing ones more. Any radical changes in Book 2 are going to have their biggest effects here.

Have a lovely day!
